Welcome to Bristol Samaritans
(Registered Charity No. 242320)

Samaritans provide completely confidential emotional support 24 hours a day by phone, face-to-face, email and letter and allow callers to talk openly about their worries and concerns without fear of being judged.

People contact us for many reasons: commonly mentioned are relationships, sex, love, divorce, debt, being gay, lesbian or heterosexual as well as many other issues causing the caller distress or despair. Whatever the problem if it is causing you or someone you know distress, despair or depression, why not talk to us about it? Talking it through with someone can often help.

Who really cares for people who are going through a crisis, are on the verge of despair or contemplating self-harm or suicide?

Samaritans do.

Our branch is based in the city centre at 37 St Nicholas Street, Bristol. BS1 1TP. We are open for visitors between 7:30 am and 9:00 pm each day, or 24 hours every day on:

Bristol (0117) 983 1000
or on the national number 08457 90 90 90

You can also contact Samaritans by email at

SMS Text Messaging - you can send us a text message from a mobile telephone on 07725 90 90 90. (Please note, this is a new pilot service and you will get a real volunteer answering you although at certain times it may take a while).

Will you sponsor us to sleep out on 28 February?

On Friday 28 February 2014 Fran Pioli, Amy Spence and Sarah Stephens are doing the "Supporting the Homeless" sleep out to raise money for Bristol Samaritans.

For the past four years, Bristol Samaritans have supported the "Caring At Christmas" shelter for homeless and vulnerably housed people through an on-site listening service. Sleeping out is not a choice for most people. The money raised from this "Sleep Out" fundraising event will go to Bristol Samaritans to help continue to support those distress and those who are having suicidal feelings.

So please, click on the Donate Now to make an on line donation. UK tax payers can help even more by agreeing to Gift Aid their donation by ticking the box against your name and filling in your name, address and postcode - allowing us to claim back the tax from the taxman at no extra cost to the donor..!
Thank You.
